Donor Advised Funds?

Options
Has anyone entered in a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) into RE.  I have a donor advised fun for $250,000 that will becoming $50,000 annually for our capital campaign.  I do not know how to enter this $250,000 into Raiser's Edge.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  I was told this is not considered a pledge.  Help!

  • It is only a pledge if the DAF itself is signing the pledge form. If the individual advisor is committing the DAF to this - well, they legally can't committ someone else to a pledge. So your best bet is to simply enter this in proposals (if you have the prospect tab) and assign someone to the individual to be sure they make their request to the DAF each year for the payments.

Assuming the gifts are coming to you at the 'advice' of the original donor to the DAF, you are correct it's not a pledge. (Am guessing there's probably a few org that would book it as such anyway.)  Or is the gift from the DAF foundation itself? We have a local DAF foundation that we have received both types of gifts from.  If the gift is actually from the DAF powers that be, you could enter the whole amount as a pledge with 5 annual payments.

How it's entered depends on your org operating procedures. Some orgs have a special holding fund where they record verbal or intended gifts. This helps to remind donor to request the payment from the DAF. Others just keep notes on such.

Did you search the forums for this topic?  There are a number of past posts regarding tracking of DAF payments.
