eCard not being sent when "donation required" added to eCard part

Options
I've setup a page with an eCard part.  All is working well with the eCard being sent out, however when I set the "donation required" option within the eCard part, I receive the acknowledgement/receipt email, but not the eCard itself.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

This may be a NetCommunity bug that needs to be addressed.

    A possible JS workaround:

If the donation field is empty (on form submission), do not submit and create an alert. This is assuming that the issue is caused from the "Donation Requied" box being selected and not a donation coming in with an eCard in general. This is a pretty simple script to setup so if Blackbaud doesnt help resolve this issue for you, I will assist you with the workaround.

    Hi John:

I discovered this problem in January and found out via a Help Chat with Blackbaud folks that the ecard part broke when BBNC was updated. BBNC will take the donation and issue the tax receipt, but the ecard will NOT send. I was informed that the ecard part will be fixed by the end of March.

Quite frankly, I was not pleased (as it meant I had nearly twenty donors who thought they had sent ecards who hadn't; it also meant that my Valentine's Day fundraising project went out the window).  Had Blackbaud been upfront and sent out a message to their clients that "oops, this is broken" I would have been more forgiving. But I was left to find out after the fact, after donors had tried to send ecards.  I moved my organization's ecards off of BBNC, and they won't be coming back.

  • Hello Michelle,

I dont blame you for moving eCards away from NetCommunity. I encourage others to follow in that path and move what they can away from this system. In my experience, Blackbaud does not fix anything, ever - and when people get upset enough to complain on the forums, we get a generic message from Crystal or Pallavi that doesnt help whatsoever. I cant even begin to tell you the amount of broken things on NetCommunity that have never been fixed or addressed.

  • Hi John,

Thank you for reaching out! We are aware of an issue with the standalone eCard part not sending messages when donations are required on Blackbaud NetCommunity 7.1. Our product engineering team is working to address the issue, and we will have a resolution in place in our upcoming Service Pack 1 (SP1) release. We'll have more information on SP1 soon, but we anticipate our release waves beginning sometime in early Q2.

Additionally, the Donation Form part can also be configured to send eCards by following these steps:
    1. Edit or create a new donation form part.
    2. Scroll down to eCard options and mark Include eCards.
    3. Select all the eCards you want to include on the form.
    4. Select display options and recipient options and press Save.
The Knowledgebase solution here can also be used to track updates on this issue:

    Thanks!

    Hi Michelle,

Thanks for the info and I feel your pain. I was about to put a ton of time/effort into a campaign with this feature being the backbone of the campaign, but I'm glad I caught the issue before really getting started. I can't imagine finding out after campaign launch!

These types of issues should definitely be communicated and frankly I would expect this to be fixed within days, not months.  Especially since this should have been caught in QA during the release process in the first place.

    Hi Tony,

Thanks for the response.  Are there any other elements of BBNC that were broken during the last update?

    Hi John,

We have experienced and reported JQuery issues (home sliders, custom parts, menus, etc) due to the JQuery Version Upgrade to 1.12.3; user imports without password control (and no ability to email users with pw); page properties show the Blackbaud payment screen; and image upload for profile updates and fundraiser page elements are changed. I believe Support and Product teams are looking into these for resolution.

  • Apologies for the delayed response, John. Our clients run BBNC in different environments (hosted vs. split hosting vs. or on-premise) with different configurations within the application, such as requiring or not requiring donations through the eCard part. As a result, there is not a list of issues that apply to all NetCommunity environments in all configuration options. Organizations with your specific configuration are experiencing this issue with eCards while others may not be affected depending on how they are using the part.

    Thanks!

    Tony
  • Tony,

"As a result, there is not a list of issues that apply to all NetCommunity environments in all configuration options. Organizations with your specific configuration are experiencing this issue with eCards while others may not be affected depending on how they are using the part."

So there are organizations using the eCards who are requiring donations and everything is working 100% correctly? If that is so, why not change the configuration of the organization in question?

    Chris
