Ghost in my RE database

Options
Hey guys, I encountered a very strange problem which made me thinking if there is a ghost in my database.

When I created an appeal in the system, it may disappear in around half an hour. Also, if I change some info of one appeal, inactive to active for example, it will restore in some time.

Have any of you had this kind of problem before? Thank you in advance ghostbusters!

  • Though it's likely you'll need to start a Case to get to the bottom, here's my ghost busting thoughts.

Unless you're the admin of RE, it's possible you don't have full security rights to edit Appeals.  There are many types of record changes that appear to let a user make changes and don't give clear enough warnings that the specific user doesn't have rights to save those changes.  So if you aren't the admin, simple test is to open an existing appeal, make a change, save and close the record, open it again and see if your changes saved.

    Hi,

I am the RE administrator will full rights, and this has happened to me as well. I change an appeal from inactive to active, and it will revert back on the next iteration.

  • Yes, you should both be starting cases with support because this is not acceptable behavior. I've never noticed anything like this.

Out of curiosity, are you on hosted accounts?
  • Another thing to watch out for, is having multiple instances of Raiser's Edge running. We can see reverting issues when multiple windows of Raiser's Edge are running. Try restarting your workstation to assure all processes get cleared fully and then make the changes/additions. If you still have an issue after that, definitely chat in to support!
  • We've experienced this. Dead people come back to life, too.

I think Blackbaud Support told me I was crazy (of course, in a much nicer way!).

But I never thought about the possibility of multiple instances of RE being open ... maybe that has (unknowingly) caused some of our issues.

  • Hi,

Only one instance of RE was open while I
experienced this issue. It was a regular occurrence with a specific
appeal that would revert back to inactive from active preventing
the entry of any gifts until I changed it back to Active. Then it
    would happen the next day.

I can't say that I have had this happen to me like you describe it, but I have had a record (single instance) that I couldn't update before. I was able to eventually fix the problem by recreating a newer version of the record and replacing older one with the newer one and then deleting the older one. Global change will help in changing the appeal.

For everyone who has the same problem as mine, here is my solution so far. Create several testing appeals in the system first, wait a while till you are sure they will not become inactive, and then change the appeals' info to what you want. This method is what I am using now to get around the glitch, since once the inactive problem comes, there is no clear solution.
