Online Community sign up

We are a school with about 45,000 alumni and have been using NetCommunity for about 4 years.  Over that time we have had about 220 people create a log on to the online community.  That number seems low to the our staff.  Could you tell me how many sign ups your school has and how are you encouraging them to create a log on?

  • Our alumni with email count is around 39,000 and of that 1200 have a login.  Most of those came in the first year when postcards were sent to all the alumni asking them to register online so that they would get more information about alumni reunions and other free alumni events.  Free food and drink seemed to be a great way to encourage signups.  The school I'm an alumna of encouraged registrations by offering discounts to registered alumni and free movie tickets every quarter.

That said, we haven't pushed sign-ups since then.  One major issue we've encountered with NetCommunity is that users forget that they ever registered, and so they create a new login with a different email.  When we pull them over through the plugin, we didn't even realize that we weren't correctly processing them.  If I understand correctly, you must go into SPARK, delete their existing user account and then process the new sign-up.  In a period of 3 years, untold numbers of re-registering was processed incorrectly and the only way to find what those users most current intended signup was, is to go to deleted users and re-submit their registration.
