RE Display Problem after Upgrading to Windows 10

Options
We are running Raiser's Edge 7.93 and just upgraded to Windows 10. I have my computer display set to 125%, and everything looks great EXCEPT for Raiser's Edge. It is all big, fuzzy, and pixelated now. When I change the display to 100%, RE looks better/normal, but everything else is too small. I had no problems with the clarity of RE at 125% on Windows 7. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? Is anyone else having this problem?

  • In general, you should avoid magnifying your screen in Windows. This has been known to cause exactly these kinds of problems in lots of programs, not just RE, and it also results in higher CPU load, which means your computer will run more slowly with magnification turned on.

To get the same result (larger text/pictures) without using the magnification tool, you should just change your screen resolution. Changing the resultion doesn't result in higher CPU load and it doesn't tend to cause the kind of problem you're seeing.

To do this in Windows 10, follow these instructions:

    1.) Turn off magnification

2.) Right click on your desktop in Windows and go to "Display Settings"

3.) In the Display Settings window, click on "Advanced Display Settings" which is a blue link at the bottom of the display settings window.

4.) Choose a lower resolution from the dropdown menu provided.

You need to keep two things in mind when you're changing youre resolution:

1.) screen resolutions with lower numbers result in larger icons/text.

2.) you will want to select a resolution with the same aspect ratio as your native resolution (which Windows will tag with the word "recommended). To find your aspect ratio, just divide the number on the left by the number on the right, and then find a resolution with numbers that are smaller that equal the same ratio when you divide the numbers.

For isntance, my main monitor's native resolution is 1440x900. If I wanted to increase the size of things on my screen without making things look too funky, I would want to step that resolution down to 1280x800. 1440/900=1.6, and 1280/800=1.6.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the detailed information! While it didn't fix my issue, it is helpful to know! :)

  • I figured out the answer to this problem!

    1. Right-click on the desktop Raiser's Edge icon

    2. Click Properties

    3. Go to the Compatibility tab

    4. Under Settings, check the Disable display scaling on high DPI settings box.

    5. Click OK

Additionally, if you run RE as a different user, just click the Change settings for all users button.
