External users having trouble finding and logging into participant center. Is there an easier way?

Options

When someone creates a team in TeamRasier, they are sent an autoresponder e-mail with a URL link directing them to their participant center. However, when they click this link, they are not sent to the participant center. Instead they are sent to the site's generic login page. Once they login, they are still not sent to the participant center. They are sent the site's home page where they have to click on the TeamRaiser campaign to get to the greetings page and then have to click on a link "Access your Participant Center". Is there a way to set this up so that when they login after following the link in their e-mail they will be sent directly to the participant center?

In addition, the "Access your participant Center" link only apears once someone has logged into the site so if they no longer have that inital URL sent to them, they have no way to login in to the Participant Center unless they somehow know to log into the site, go to the TeamRaiser greeting page and then click on the "Access your Participant Center" link. Is there a way to add a link to the Participant Center from the home page that appears whether or not someone is logged in?

Thank you for any help or advice you can provide!

  • Hi Angel: We've run into a similiar issue recently. Convio is aware of it and working on it.

We've worked around it by hard-coding the link to the Participant Center. Create a link to the UserLogin screen (where they're forced to enter their username/password every time) and include a NEXTURL= the participant center homepage.

    For example, http://www.yoursite.org/site/UserLogin?NEXTURL=http://www.yoursite.org/site/TRC/General?fr_id=1100&pg=center.

You can insert that link into the autoresponder, and into any page regardless of whether or not the person is logged in. You might want to add it to the TR homepage too (outside of the navigation). Just be careful to not confuse users who aren't registered for the event (and shouldn't click on a link to the participant center).

Hope this helps! Good luck with your event.

Is there an update on this? We've run into a similar issue and it's now May of 2011.

  • Hi All,

This is such a great question - sorry I missed it before.  This issue is generally circumvented with a couple of quick tricks.

When you link to the participant center, you can format the link in such a way that the user is prompted to log in and taken directly to the participant center.  You can also code the link to force a specific pagewrapper on the login page.  Here's how:

    a. Go to the admin portal, login, and go to Fundraising > TeamRaiser.  Click to "Edit" your teamraiser.

    b. Go to the "Manage Autoresponders" section and click to edit one of your autoresponders.  If you have a participant center link there already, edit it by highlighting it and clicking the link icon in the wysiwyg toolbar, or switching to HTML and editing the link there.

    c. At the end of the URL, add the following argument: "&autologin=TRUE." Save and continue.  This should prompt the user to login and take them directly to their participant center.

To force the appropriate pagewrapper, you can further append the URL to include the ID number of the pagewrapper (if you don't have access to your pagewrappers, you can ask support.  Then you can append "&pw_id=1234" where 1234 is the ID of the wrapper you want to display.

Now, to address the issue where users cannot see the participant center link until they are logged in, it is imperative that you add content to your event's homepage, navigation, and/or wrapper to prompt participants to log in and go to their participant center.  A few good examples of this are: http://www.aidslifecycle.org/, http://support.ddfl.org/site/TR?fr_id=1090&pg=entry.  If you don't have the resources to create the login boxes, you can also just add a line on your event greeting page that says "Registered Participants: Log in to your Participant Center" with the link to the Participant Center.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,

    Noel
