Is there a way to make joining a team mandatory for Teamraiser participants?

Options

We're having an event in which teams are required, but I can't seem to find a way to ensure that everyone who registers through Teamraiser joins a team. Looking for suggestions.

Also, is there an option to set minimum number of participants per team? I can only find maximum.

  • Hi Mark,

You can force participants to join teams by simply deleting the "register as an individual" links and options.  There's no setting in the product for this, but it's simple enough to manage through the use of content.  You might choose to use a pagebuilder page for your TeamRaiser homepage so can better control the content, links and layout of the page.  If you are using the TeamRaiser greeting page, just delete the text that serves as the label for the "register as an individual" link, and it will disappear.

There is no way to enforce a minimum for team participation - the product can't really disallow teams that don't reach a certain capacity by a certain date.  Plus, this goes against best practices; since team members (on any size of team) tend to raise more than individuals, I'd encourage you not to enforce a minimum.  If your event idea won't work without a minimum, you could manually enforce it through content, then report on it later and refund/remove the folks that did not meet your requirements.  Again, this is a lot of administrative overhead and risk that you'll offend the folks that did not meet the minimum team member capacity - in my book, you never want to turn away a fundraiser

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks, Noel.

On that note, would there be a way to create a team registration fee as opposed just an individual registration fee (the event is a bowling tournament, if that helps).

    Regards,

    Mark

Hmmm.  No team registration fee.  I suppose you could create a participation type for team captains only, which included the entire fee for the team.  Would that work?

You can set the TR so that the captain can set a password to join the team he just paid for.

If there's a way to restrict team formation to a particular participation type...

I don't think you can restrict team formation. That step comes before the participation type choice.

I just remembered there is some setting to automatically join a participant to an honorary team, or something like that.

I think it sticks everyone that didn't create or join a team into an automatic team, but I have never fooled with it.

    edit:

    4. Select Team Options

    1. Honarary Teams

Determines if participants will be randomly assigned to an Honorary Team  (typically for a special phase of the event that is led by a celebrity  and is not associated with the team the participants have joined)

I've been playing around some more with Teamraiser and I think the only way to make an event like this to work is through paper registration and then forwarding online fundraising resources to participating teams.

I would suggest Convio take a look at needs of team-based events and competitions in future upgrades. We do a few team-focused fundraisers that cannot accomodate individual participation and it would be nice to have an online tool compatible with this format. A team captain registration fee or the ability to link a participation type with team formation would have probably been enough to solve most of the problems I've had in setting this up.

    Cheers,

    Mark
