The Communications Manager is a full-time communications professional reporting to the current Director of Development and Strategic Communications, who will be shifting to a new position. This role also provides apportioned ministry support to directors in the areas of Outreach and Spiritual Care & Engagement. The ideal candidate has superior project management skills across varied constituencies, including volunteers. This position:

  • provides primary design, execution and deployment of parish-wide communications and marketing deliverables
  • collaborates directly with six ministry directors supporting individual ministry marketing communication efforts
  • provides a combined creative and analytic effort to provide messaging that is comprehensive, consistent, high-quality, and multi-channel
  • engage, inform, and connect St. Monica community members, personnel, and the public
  • assist in the general administration of two ministry departments:
    Outreach and Spiritual Care & Engagement
  • interacts and regularly consults with directors, parish and schools’ administration, councils, and other participants before making decisions

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage project and editorial calendar for communications, fundraising appeals,
    and stewardship activities.
  2. Traffic, layout, and proof content from six contributors for current weekly email newsletter and any future parish-wide communication pieces.
  3. Guide print and digital deliverables through strategy, creative brief, content creation,
    review and proof, and final deployment.
  4. Sustain social media calendar with relevant content across all digital channels:
    website, digital signage, social media, etc.
  5. Serve as primary webmaster for updates, maintenance, and supporting approved users.
  6. Assist staff and volunteers in best practices of print and digital assets as established by approved templates and the brand identity and style guides.
  7. Provide frontline database operations: donation and event forms, imports, reporting, and dashboards, ministry data-entry.
  8. Provide secondary support for donor relations: inquiries, profile updates, and development-related parishioner requests.
  9. Manage tasks and projects with contracted managed services for Raiser’s Edge database, mainly imports, audit, and clean-up.
  10. Coordinate, support, and be present at assigned Outreach and Spiritual Care & Engagement ministry events, including registration, preparation, online moderation, staffing, logistics, and gathering resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent training and experience) in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or another related services field with an emphasis in project management.
  • 3 years professional collaboration in a communications/creative services field
    (i.e., advertising, journalism, branding, design, print production, web development,
    media relations, etc.)
  • advanced skills in in print and digital production software, especially InDesign
  • expert skills in proofreading, and copy-editing
  • web development and design experience, content management system (CMS) experience
  • strong writing, editing, and production skills, experience in print production and purchasing
  • familiarity with the Catholic faith
  • preferred: proficiency in Blackbaud software products—
    RaisersEdge (NXT -and- Database View) or willingness to undergo 12-hour minimum training, plus additional intermediate skills.

Notes: The term “parish” refers firstly to the entity of St. Monica Catholic Church within St. Monica Catholic Community. The Community also includes two school entities – St. Monica Elementary School and St. Monica Catholic High School. The management of “parish-wide” operations and initiatives will occasionally involve collaboration with the school entities.

Compensation & Recruitment: Compensation will be commensurate with position, skills and experience ranging from $64,480–75,000. Full benefits will be offered through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
