Are you a skilled Engineer with a passion for the outdoors? Do you want to work for a leader in wetland conservation and make a difference in the world? Ducks Unlimited is currently seeking a talented Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team in the Living Lakes Field Office, located in Garfield, MN.

As an EIT at Ducks Unlimited, you will work on a variety of wetland and habitat restoration projects, collaborating with a team of biologists, engineers, and construction managers to bring projects to life. You will be responsible for creating accurate and detailed design drawings for wetland restoration projects.

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self- motivated, experienced civil engineer to be located in Garfield, MN. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Minnesota.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program, and a preferred minimum of 2 years’ experience in civil engineering design. It is preferred that the candidate is a registered EIT or PE. Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including structures and pump stations, erosion control, construction inspection and project management. Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

Responsibilities

Engineers perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include field survey, engineering design, drafting with AutoCAD Civil 3D, project bidding, field inspection, and construction management. A close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include travel throughout Minnesota.

Specific duties include:

  1. Survey project sites using Trimble GPS survey equipment.
  2. Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
  3. Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
  4. Draft engineering plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  5. Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
  6. Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  7. Act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance and manage project budgets.
  8. Perform field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
