Increase max length for display name

Does anyone know if the maximum length (15 chars) of the Display name is coded on the backend, or might I manipulate that with JS?

 

I am working on a program in which two people participate together, not as a team, but as a single unit. We would like to repurpose the Display name to be the couples name, and all was going well until we hit the 15 character max.

 

Any ideas, thoughts, or insight would be greatly beneficial and appreciated!

You also have the constituent custom string field option, which I would use over repurposing an existing field myself.

 

I don't recall the maxlength of those either, though.

Thank you for your advice, that does seem to make more sense than our original idea.

So I'm not sure if this option is visible to you or just us but there is a site option to increase the character count for a TeamRaiser screenname. If you'll go to Setup - Site Options - choose TeamRaiser and search "F2F_SCREENNAME_MAX_LENGTH" you'll see the "15" configured there. If you can't see this label then you'll need to open a Support case and ask them to change it for you. The max limit is 50 characters.
