Deleting/Streamlining Groups

Options
Hi everyone,

We've been using LO for years and have tons of groups, most of which we don't use. Is anyone aware of any issues with deleting old/inactive groups? I imagine it may be good to keep some for reference/reports down the line, but not all. Is it safe to delete Data Sync groups, for example?

We've also recently updated our interest categories, and so some interest opt-in/out groups have changed. Is it possible/recommended to move members from one interest into another one (with a similar, if not the exact same, function)? I believe we used to have EOY as an interest, as well as Giving Tuesday, now we just have "Fundraising Appeals." Of course as the former interests are specific, I wouldn't want to move them into the broader category. When you do create a new interest, I guess in some cases people will just have to update their preferences again?

Thanks!

We don't delete our groups. Once they become obsolete, we change the name and put a Z- in front of it, so it falls to the bottom of the alphabetical list.

As for Interest Groups, we just recently went through condensing our groups into more broad categories. We also redesigned our preference page using DNL OmniMedia. If I remember correctly, you can add one interest group into another and once that is done, delete the one that you no longer want.
