Report Builder - insight links not creating lists

Options
Not sure when this started but now when you preview a dashboard and try to click on an insight link to have the gift list appear it now does nothing. I've opened a case but wondering if this is happening to others as well and you have figured out the issue.

  • Mine work in preview mode, so it's not an issue for everyone.
  • As of right now, I am not having any trouble with previewing my dashboards and viewing "drill-down" lists.

In the past, I have had this issue with a couple of my users.   I tested it out and when I figured it out, I think the changes in NXT Security, roles, etc... were causing the problem.  Unfortunately,  I had to give the individuals more options on their fundraiser role (list options), for them to access the lists from dashboards.  This is probably not the same as your issue, but it was my experience.

  • Try switching browsers... my dashboards work best in Chrome.  I often have problems with viewing my dashboards & lists in Firefox.
  • We've learned that Insights are a little.... inconsistent.

You can click on an individual bar in a bar chart or point in a line chart to get an explanatory list panel, but not always.  We've found that when you're "counting" things most of the common charts (bar/line/pie) work pretty well, but if you start summing up money or totals they sometimes become "unclickable."

Heatmap insights are not clickable at all (ugh!) and Headline insights are almost always clickable.

And all of this is subject to change every few months ?

To get around these limitations my dashboards tend to have a lot of measurements on them, some simply repeating other measurements in ways that are more useful.

So I'll have a bar chart showing all the actions by action TYPE (bunch of pretty colors) but then I'll create 5 Headline Insights, each filtered to give a TOTAL of those actions.  Like this:

In this case the bars are still clickable, but that's not always true, depending upon the chart I'm making...

  • Tom, I've had to do the exact same thing.  It makes for dashboards that are a bit busier, but at least they're functional in spite of the limitations.
