OLX Email Marketing

Options
We currently use Constant Contact for e-mail communication but are considering using OLX. I have a few questions;

1. If a constituent opts out, are they opting out of all e-mails or can they opt out of specific types of e-mails; newsletters, appeals, event invitations....

2. The information of seen says the data from e-mail marketing can be synced with the RE record and the info is placed on the Appeal Tab.  Are you able to direct certain types of e-mails to an Action instead of an Appeal?

3. I also read the following and I'm wondering why we have the option to uncheck the "request no email" box if OLX will still not email to this address unless constituents signs themselves up?An email recipient that opts out of Online Express emails can opt back in anytime by simply signing up to receive emails via the organization’s Online Express email signup form.

While the organization can uncheck the “requests no email” box that Online Express checks on an opted-out constituent’s record in Raiser's Edge, Online Express will still honor the recipient’s original opt-out request.

4. Would anyone recommend OLX over Constant Contact?

    Hi Sue - The answers to your questions are below.

    1. If a constituent clicks "unsubscribe" at the bottom of an email, they are unsubscribed from all OLX email communications.  My organization tries to get around this by including a link above the footer of the email, which gives constituents the opportunity to "update communication preferences", with the hope that constituents will fill out that form versus globally unsubscribing from our emails.

    2. All email data downloaded from OLX into RE goes into the Appeal Tab. If you would like for it to appear in Actions Tab, you would have to run an import/export to move the information into the Actions Tab.  And then probably after the import into Actions you would need to run a Global Delete on that Appeal, so you don't have duplicate information in your system.

    3. OLX's list of unsubscribed emails is not affected by unchecking the "Requests No Email" box on a constituent record in RE.  This feature is OLX's way of ensuring that emails previously unsubscribed through OLX, do not have communications sent to them.  As you said in the initial question, constituents who want to re-subscribe to emails can do so by filling out the OLX sign-up form.

    4. OLX and Constant Contact both have strengths and weaknesses.  While OLX is not as robust as other email providers (i.e. limited available design options, unable to view code, etc.) it does integrate with RE.  For my current organization, we are willing to compromise on the number of things we can do in OLX emails because OLX integrates with RE.  However, at a previous organization, the integration piece was not enough to convince them to utilize OLX for emails and they used another email provider. The decision is entirely dependent on what your organization is looking for in an email provider and what you are unwilling to compromise on.

    Let me know if you have any questions on my answers, or if I can help you with anything else.
