tax receipts

Hello everyone,

I am very new to processing online transactions. One of my constituents has requested a copy of her tax receipt and I'm wondering how I go about providing her with that since it was originally receipted through OLX? Thank you for your help!

  • Stephanie, you can log into your BBMS account directly and re-issue a transaction receipt from there. However, it won't have the normal nonprofit tax language at the bottom. So you may be better off manually issuing a receipt as you do for snail-mail donations. It's possible that she never received her original receipt if, for instance, she mis-typed her email address on the online form.

At our organization, we do two things which you could implement, if you wished, for future online donations. The first is that we include one of our staff email addresses on the donation form's setup page under "Thank Yous", to receive email notifications for all donations. This provides our staff members with an email copy of the donor's acknowledgement email, which can be forwarded should the donor need a new copy.

We also provide online gifts the same personal, hand-signed thank you letter that we do for snail mail gifts. All posted gifts including online gifts get this snail mail acknowledgement with a tax receipt tear-off. Email acknowledgements are nice to let a donor know their transaction was processed, but they lack any personalization or human touch. And anymore, people make very large gifts online sometimes -- $500 even up to $3,000 sometimes through an online form. OLX's automated email response hardly seems adequate -- donors can tell it is automated!
