How can I create a way for constituents to post stories?

Options

There are a few steps involved in creating User Stories on your site:

1) The first step is to create an Interest for the User Stories. Click on Constituent360 > Interests. Then click on "Create a New Interest Category". Give it a descriptive name so you can tell it apart from the other interests and make sure you set it as "Make this interest a choice for web content". You can also choose to make a group out of the interest if you would like.

2) Now you can insert the link to have people submit User Stories. Highlight the text you want to make the link (i.e. Click here to submit your story) and choose "User Story" from the Links drop down. This will open a new box where you can choose the Interest that this particular User Story should be set up with (you could have multiple types of User Stories and then there would be multiple Interests listed here - but for now there should only be the one). Select "Insert" next to the interest you want. The link is now created.

3) Now users can click on the link and go through the 3 step process of submitting a story. You should run a test yourself on the link to see what it is like to submit a story.

4) Now when a user submits a story it is sent to the StoryBuilder section under Content (Content > StoryBuilder). You will see the story in the Article List and it will be in a "Pending" state. This allows you to review the content and make sure that it is appropriate for your site. This is just a safety measure to make sure individual can not put content on your site that may be inappropriate or offensive. It is a good idea to have a formal review process for these stories.

5) Once you have reviewed the article you can click on the "Approve" icon to show others it is ready and once you are set to publish the story, click on "Publish". Now the user story can be put on a page.

6) Most clients will build a PageBuilder page to display the stories. The easiest way to do this is to create a new PageBuilder page with your preferred layout (you can also include a list of the user stories on other pages using these instructions). In one of the components select "Story Builder Headline" and click on edit. Choose the type of display you would like (i.e. Headline and subheading, etc.). If you want ONLY the user stories to appear in this component then you would set the "interest" to the user story interest you created in the first step. Click save, and you have your user stories.

The only step left to do is to continue to review, approve and publish the articles that are sent in by the users.

  • Hi folks,

Does anyone know if you can use a wrapper other than the General Default for the User Story input walk-through? I can't see anyway to make a User Story link open in anything but that wrapper.

    Thanks!

    Jon
