Does anyone use the acquisiton list feature or external software to name match external lists against CRM records?

Yale is considering purchasing a name matching application (Rosette Text Analytics). We are looking for something which will allow us to pass a list of names with some other information from subscription services and run some algorithm to compare against our CRM for potential matched records. We would then do further analysis to confirm the match. We were wondering if anyone uses something native in CRM (ie acquisition lists) or another application. We can think of many uses for this including being able to code engagement activities for lists of constituents that do not contain an ID and may/may not be constituents. Anyone doing anything like this? If so, what do you use and why?
