Duplicate Gift in Batch

Options
Anybody else had this happen? We entered a $300 gift in a Batch. There was an outstanding pledge balance of $150 which we applied the gift to and the other $150 was a cash gift. The Batch shows two gifts each for $150. When the Batch was committed, we found a third $150 gift on the Constituent record. The Gift record indicates it was posted through the same Batch as the other two gifts but the Batch itself still only shows two gifts.

How did we end up with an extra gift?

Here's my guess, only a guess. It sounds like you in batch made a $150 pledge payment and a $150 cash gift. When you entered the gift as $300 and chose to apply it to the pledge RE  applied all 300 and then when committing recognized the overpayment. When you commit the batch there's an option to create an exception or an additional gift. I don't have a batch ready to commit or I could screen shot it. My guess is that the box was checked to create an additional gift.

This is almost certainly what happened. Same thing happened to me two weeks ago - drove me nuts trying to figure it out, and this was precisely what the problem was.

Ah-HA! I'm not the one who did the Batch but I bet you're right!

  • This is why all staff need to be trained by an RE pro.

LOL - don't know about that. Would be nice have that training for everyone but to remember a small thing like that months or years after training....???? Lots of learning is experience and unfortunately in a lot of the odd instances by trial and error, mostly by error.

That's why this forums are so great!  The answers to the seemingly strange things that occur.

    Have a great weekend!
