viewing upcoming events

I have been trying to figure out how to keep old events visible on our calendar while maintaining an upcoming events runner on our pagewrapper. Is this possible? I want to show the next 5 or so weeks of events on the pagewrapper, but can't seem to figure out how to do it. When I set it to upcoming period, it leaves out things happening this week. When I set it to current period, it keeps the outdated events up unless we make them inactive (which we don't want to do).

Another solution could come from ideas around how to keep events up on the calendar for folks to see what we've done without making them inactive.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
