What happens if I delete old stationery?

We recently implemented some new stationery designs. I'd like to remove the old stationery from the system so that no administrators accidentally use it. I see two options in the Stationery menu: Delete and Unpublish. Which is better? What will be the effect on previously sent messages if I delete the stationery? Can I still preview them in Convio to see what they looked like when sent?

I logged a case with Convio Support with this question, and got the following answer:

In my testing it looks like once a message has been approved with a stationary and you archive that stationary the preview looks the same. It will not show up on the list of available stationary to use for new messages though.

So I unpublished my old stationery, and had no trouble previewing old email messages.
