Datasync: Dealing with deceased/bad email addresses in the offline database

How do you deal with records in your offline database (i.e. Raiser's Edge) for constituents who are deceased or have bad email addresses so that they are not accidentally re-added into/via Convio when a Data Sync takes place? I was assuming that by removing the Convio email type in the offline database and then also removing the contact from Convio would take care of this, but wanted to be sure and see what others are doing.
