Link Default Donation Amount to Email Recipient Giving History

I'd like to send eAppeal respondents to customized donation pages that set a default donation amount based on their giving history. However, because of privacy concerns, we cannot use autologin for our email messaging (forwarded messages will send the new recipient to pages with the original recipient's information filled in - a terrible bug in the system).

Is it possible to set up conditional default donation levels?

In my experience, there are two ways to do this: 1) Put your subscribers into HPC or other giving history groups, and put conditional links in the message rather than the donation page, and then point each of these links to a different page, or 2) use security categories. I've done the former - it works, though it's tedious. I've never used the latter - it seems like it might be equally complicated, but I'm not sure.

I'd be interested in hearing any other approaches here, or whether Convio plans on including conditional ask strings in a future release (similar to the GetActive setup).
