Undesignated Pipelines

Options
Hello,

How do you handle opportunities for not as yet designated funds? We have some donors who have expressed interest in funding capital projects, scholarships, etc but we do not have a designation set up for their interests as of yet. We need to be able to track these opportunities that aren’t yet tied to current designations. We considered creating placeholder designations but would like to hear what others are doing before going down that path.

Thanks in advance,

Christine

  • Christine,

We struggle with the same thing as there is
not a straightforward way to take care of this in Blackbaud
CRM.  Our solution, which has yet to implemented, is to create
placeholder designations just as you have suggested. The reason we
have yet to implement this approach is twofold:  (1) we
haven’t figured out how to make it “easy to use” for frontline
fundraisers and (2) we haven’t been able to land on a reasonable
set of placeholders that will help our pipeline analysis.

So long story short, we haven’t implemented
anything yet but are likely to go down the same path as you
    all.

  • Hi Travis,

We decided to go ahead and create placeholder desginations. We have about 8-10 that our AVP of development needs yearly, which isn't too much to manage. We are going to try and come up with a name for these placeholder designations that includes a similar keyword so it's easy to find them in search. We are working on the naming convention. For now, only the AVP will know that they exist. He is going to work with them for a couple of months and see how it goes before we share the placeholder designations widely.

    Thanks!

    Christine
