Appeal category & Marketing Segment

Hello All!

I have never used Appeal category.  Have you?  Can you tell me how you use it?  Right now the scenario I'm building for my workplace is one that incorporates appeal and package coding instead of an open appeal system.  In the past, I've used a gift Attribute of <Gift Source> to track how a gift came in: DM, Phone, Event, Online, Whitemail.  I'm wondering if that could be a possible use for Appeal category.  


Your thoughts?  Your experience?
