Pulling Last Gift amount and Largest Gift amount for constituents with split gifts

Options
We enter split gifts as separate gift transactions, then how do you pull the Last Gift Amount and the Largest Gift Amount? We are thinking about adding a gift attribute ‘same day gift total’ to ALL the gifts. Does anyone have a better idea?

We're trying to figure this out as well.  We don't currently have gift IDs, so what I'm looking into doing is populating the gift ID field with an 8 or 9 digit ID number, and then manually changing/appending them for split gifts as part of the gift entry process.  So you'd have 12345678-1, 12345678-2, etc.  Then in reporting, summing gifts by grouping them according to the first 8 digits of the ID.  We haven't implemented it yet, though.

To meet the reporting needs for identifying the last gift, you may have to rely on pivot or custom reports. If the individual has multiple gifts that have been split, this will inflate the ‘last’ or ‘largest’ gift amount. Typically these outputs are not filtered to pull the true last/largest gift. If they are filtering by CFA, limited date parameter, this may work in Export, but it will not work well in Query outputs nor standard reports like First/Latest/Greatest.

Best Case Scenario: Enter the full gift amount as one record and use the split gift feature. This will allow your organization to benefit from the last gift/largest gift options. Should you need to see if the gift is split, you can can output the split details (amount, campaign, fund, appeal, package) via Query+Export or Query and Pivot Reports. Their are a few standard reports which reflect split amounts.

    •  How does this impact reporting?  Standard reports are not very friendly to split gifts.
    • NXT Web View – effectively reflects a full gift and the split amount on the gift details record. Dashboard totals are accurately reflected in the campaign, fund, and appeal. There are no options to analyze gifts through package.

If your gifts ar associated with event related transactions, and your organization owns the event module, you will have a limitation if spltting one transaction between event registration and an additional gift. You cannot split between both the entry has to be for registration or additional donation, not both.

I hope this feedback is help! Much Success.
