Importing data from iSAMS to Raiser's Edge

Options
We are trying to import our data from iSAMs to Raiser's Edge and I wondered if school or college is using this database and can help.  We can move the basics but to get the parent information etc is proving difficult. Any help gratefully received.  Otherwise it is back to having to type it all in!!

Thanks

I haven't used that database, but when I worked at a K12, I had a similar issue with getting parent info into their system.  Are you trying to create constituent accounts for the parents or non-constituent relationship records?  You can do either, but you'll handle the import in different ways depending upon how you want the data.

If you want the parents to be non-constituent relationships, you'll need to add the fields that RE requires for those - a relationship import ID as well as any required fields for relationships (such as date from, Relationship/Reciprocal, etc.).

If you want to make the parents constituents, then you'll have to plan your imports very carefully so that you can use your constituent import IDs from both the student and the parent to link the two in a relationship.  Doing this will require more than one import.  I typically imported my students in one, my parents in another and then created the relationships in a third.

We want to import them separately and then connect them.  I wish it was more straight forward, but we will get there.
