Peer to Peer Fundraising - Do I put these constituents in RE?

Options
We just had a peer-to-peer fundraiser where teams raised "group" funds for our cause.    I have the names of each, individual fundraiser.   The issue is data entry.     Many gave $5.     Should these be added to RE?    My initial thought is yes - we want to know that they have a starting relationship with us -  we also know their work address and who asked them for the "pooled" funding.   What does everybody else do?

We would add them.  As you said, they are starting a relationship.  Including them in RE gives you opportunity to include them in newsletters, events, and letting them know the difference their donation made, etc.

Are you talking hundreds/thousands of records?  You've got addresses which is a plus to me also.

  • Beverly - I take a look at their affinity to us and try to determine

A)How likely they are to give to us again?

B)How likely are they to be using the same email or postal address the next time we have this event?

In the A Group - are these donors relatives and friends of the person who did the ask? Do the donors have any other potential for a connection to our organization?  If no - I don't enter them.

In the B Group - if the funrdaiser was a college student - and the donors are fellow college students - not only do they have a lower affinity - but I'm also not likely to be able to get ahold of them next year.

Now - because I don't want to necessarily write off anyone - if I have email addresses for these folks - I would save their contact info in a csv file.  When it comes time for the same event the next year - I would create a specail email just for the people that I thought had low affinity or were likely to move - and invite them to join our cause another year.  I still haven't put them in RE  - but I'm contacting them one more time.  If they give - then they go in RE.  If not - I'm done contacting them.

On the one hand - this takes a little more work to maintain the csv file - but it saves time from plugging in hundreds or thousands of donors who will never give to my org a second time.  Also saves donor aggravation from me not "pestering" someone who has low affinity.
  • Thank you!
