Restricted Gifts

Options
My team has been using restricted gifts for event "wish lists" to raise extra money at events.  We have been so sucessful we are going to do a campaign for it for non-event gifts.  We have been coding restrcited gifts with a simple gift attribute that says ''wish list" yes or no and then a gift purpose for what the gift is being restriced for specifically.  I was wondering how does everyone deal wtih restricted gifts in RE.  I have been told a good way would be to give restricted gifts its own fund in RE so that it can be seperated when reporting.

thanks

  • Our restricted gifts have their own campaign.  So we have:

2016 Annual Fund (Our unrestricted funds) and 2016 Gifts and Pledges (which is restricted $$).

We also code the funds that are restricted with a fund type of Restricted.

  • All of our restricted gifts have separate fund numbers as they all have separate purpose/criteria.
  • We use a separate fund for restricted gifts. This helps our finance office when running reports from RE as we are not integrated with FE.
We assign/create appeals for the different restrictions (i.e. Library, playground, classroom supplies, etc.) - but you could possibly use another field for that like gift subtype (if you aren't using it for another purpose), reference or attribute.
  • yeah we don't have FE either and that is the problem.  Thank you Gina i think you have answered my question

do you have a seperate fund for every single wishlist item or a generalized fund for all wishlist gifts?  Ultimately we need a good way to report on wishlist gifts and all other gifts.  We currently have our funds laid out as follows; Trustee FY16, Women's Board FY16, Individual FY16, Alumni FY16, etc...but I think the best way to represent all of this would be to have constituency codes represent the who and then have the funds represent the what.  For example, we could have a board member give to a wish list item, or general operatin or an event.  Does it make sense to have a general Wishlist fund and then use appeal to connect it to an event and then go even further and have the package be the wish list item?  The more I do this project plan the more confused i am getting

  • Our Restricted, Unrestricted and Temp Restricted gifts each have their own Fund IDs.  Very straightforward and easy for reporting and reconcilation.  One step gets you the right info on the reports, instead of having to dig through attributes. wink
