Calculated field in an Export

Options
I'm creating an export with 3 columns (by constituent)

this FY for a specific group of funds

last FY for a same group of funds

This FY Overall

This is all working well.  However, the user takes the results and adds her own columns for analysis.  Difference between column 1 and 2.  Difference between column 1 and 3...etc.

Can I add my own 'calculated field' on the export OUTPUT screen, so that she doesn't have to manually do this once the data is in Excel?

(new to RE...appreciate the help!)

  • Unfortunately, no.  But there are lots of ways automate the process in Excel.
  • Not in an export - but this could be done by creating a custom crystal report. The resulting report would be a .pdf and not excel however and converting it to excel would be ugly. There are benefits to it being a .pdf (can't be edited) but there are also drawbacks (it can't be edited) - see the dilemma! :-)

I have created a number of Crystal report that I export to Excel. The trick is to use as little formatting as possible.

It doesn't look pretty, but that doesn't matter if the report will only be used in Excel.
  • As already mentioned there are ways to do this in Excel and Crystal Reports.  Setting up a macro in Excel is probably your best option, unless you know Crystal Reports (or have someone on staff or can hire someone that does).  A Crystal Report report could be created so it can be exported to Excel or a csv file with no need to reformat.  I've created a few reports that I use to manipulate data and create RE import files.

Also, PDF can be edited if you have Adobe Acrobat Pro (or other PDF editing software).
