Odd spacing in address

Options
Hey everyone,

We're having an odd issue--not a crisis by any means--and I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered it.

We have a Constituent whose address looks perfectly normal when you're viewing their actual Constituent record, or Address record, etc. However, when we are looking the person up, in the "Open" dialog that comes up when you search for a person with multiple possible results, the address looks wonky. It's something like this:

Jane Doe

1234 Somekinda

St.

Citytown, AA 12345

There is plenty of room for "St." to be displaying on the same line as the rest of the address; the address directly above it in the dialog is far longer. Yet, as already stated, the address looks totally normal in the Constituent record. It has been re-entered, in case some one-in-a-million data entry error resulted in some sort of special character being entered instead of a normal space, but the issue persists.

Color me stumped.

  • When you say it looks fine in the constituent record, what are you looking at?   What does it look like on the address tab > address block window at bottom right of screen?  Is it correct there?  or wonky?  (love that word laugh).
  • JoAnn,

On the Bio1 tab and on the Address tab (both the editable address and the Address Block), the address appears to be formatted normally, i.e.:

    Jane Doe

    1234 Somekinda St.

    Citytown, AA 12345

Somehow, when we search for this record and view the listing in the "Open" dialog, a line break of some kind seems to be inserted between the street name and "St." We have fixed this so we know it is just a normal space in the record. So weird!

  • Daniel,

Try clicking the "Word (write a letter)" icon and see what you get. Also, check to see if there are extra spaces after "St." But if the Address Block looks good these suggestions are most likely not the answer.

    Wonky, indeed.

  • I am with Joann in not just looking at Bio 1 and the address tab but be sure to make use of the Address Block preview at the bottom of the address when you open it from the address tab. This is a highly underutilized feature in RE and can really show you what your address will actually look like.

If it looks normal there - time to contact BB.
  • Upon logging in this morning, the record is now displaying correctly.

Thanks to everyone for your tips and suggestions, though.

and then I would say, upon review, that sometimes you make changes and RE does not seem to recognize them.  But -- if you log out and back in again, it will reflect your changes.  Not just addresses but in other places also.

Yup. I notice that any time I add anything to the Config tables, it doesn't show up for selection in records until I re-log.
