Moving from Luminate Online to Online Express

Options
Hi there,

Does anyone have experience making the move from Luminate Online to Online Express? There is an opportunity to do that, but I'm just wondering about any potential issues...

Also can Online Express send emails to an independent list of email addresses (i.e. the eNewsletter subscribers currently housed in Luminate Online but not in the RE database).

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello,

My organization is actually in the process of moving from Online Express to Luminate Online. Although our move is in the opposite direction, I think I can speak to a lot of the differences between the products (and there are A LOT!).

Online Express is a much less sophisticated, much less complex tool. In answer to your question, Online Express can only send emails to constituent records and their relationship records in Raiser's Edge. So if there are subscribers in Luminate that you wish to continue sending emails to, those subscribers will need a Raiser's Edge record (or at least a relationship record connected to a constituent in Raiser's Edge).

In addition, there is not an option for your subscribers to opt-out of only certain emails. In other words, if someone opts-out, they opt-out of ALL emails, not just a specific newsletter. Another potential issue with Online Express compared to Luminate is that the content is FAR less customizable, and CANNOT use targeted gift ask strings or similar conditional content. Any email list segmenting you wish to do will need to be done via different queries in Raiser's Edge.

I can think of at least a hundred more ways that Online Express is different than Luminate Online, so if you have more questions, let me know by replying to this thread! I'm happy to share my experience between the two platforms.
  • Thank you, that's incredibly helpful. For our purposes it sounds like it wouldn't be a good move to switch completely but I like that OLX can also email relationship records.
