Removing Duplicate Constituent Code Entries on a lot of Records

Options
We have a bunch of records where each record might have the same constituent code added two or more times. SO for example Mr Bob Smith might be down as a major donor (with nothing in th dates field) and then also as a major donor from 2012 [this is just an example].

Does anyone know a quick(er) way to change these all in one go?. I don't think I can just, say take out those with blank dates using the "Group Change" function. I think it will just get rid of all occurences. Also I can't delete them by exporting an import file deleting themon that and re-importing them.

Anyone got any bright ideas or something I migh have overlooked?

  • I recently had to do something similar and you're almost there with your last suggestion. I exported all constituent codes and from/to dates for the people affected, removed all codes from those records using global change, then deduplicated my export file in Excel (keeping the ones with dates, if you have the situation in your Bob Smith example) and imported what was left back into RE. It's worth noting that you can't specify a primary constituent code in your import file so the codes will need to be sorted in order of priority, if it's important to your organisation to have a primary constituent code.

There is an article on removing duplicate constituent codes on the knowledgebase (https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/37719) but the process described there would remove all of your date information, which is less than ideal.
  • That's brilliant - thank you.
