why is OLX sending e-mail to people who are marked deceased?

Options
I sent an e-mail this morning and received a response from someone who said the recipient was deceased.

So I went into RE to mark the person as deceased.

It had already been done--and there was no spouse or other relationship listed on the record.

I had *assumed* that OLX would know enough NOT to e-mail people who are marked as deceased.

Is that not the case?

And if it isn't, why isn't it?

At best, it's embarrassing, and at worst, it's potentially painful to the recipients of our e-mails.

  • I guess I thought OLX would do this automatically, but there could be a good reason why it doesn't.  However, in the meantime I suggest that you check your OLX Queries and be sure the Include Deceased box is UNchecked on the Criteria Tab.  That should solve this for you, but retain the ability (should you ever need it) to include a Query that does email to addresses on a record marked Deceased.
  • Thanks, Jennifer--good suggestion.

It never occurred to me to tweak the queries to exclude the deceased--but I'll make sure to do it from now on.

Still, this should indeed be automatic.

  • Hi Mary!

Jennifer's answer is absolutely correct - you will want to be sure to unmark the "Include Deceased" checkbox at the top of your query criteria to ensure deceased constituents are not included in your emails.

I'd highly recommend that you add your idea for automatic exclusion of deceased records from emails to our Product Ideas section of the Online Express community. It's a great idea and I'm sure you'd get many votes on it!

Thanks, and I hope this helps!
