Recognition program

How to start a recognition program of milestones in giving to the intuition, like 1, 5, 10, 15 yrs. etc to say thank you?

  • What is the goal of the milestone program?  Is it for staff to know your long time supporters, and in that vein alert them to the fact so if they are interacting with them, then the dialogue would be different than a new donor?  If that is where you want to start, I would suggest adding a constituent attribute Milestone and then the description would be a table that shows 1 yr, 5 yr, etc. And then create a business rule that would have a pop-up appear when they open the record alerting them to the fact that this consitutent is a milestone member.

Then I would put in place an acknowledgment system that looks at the attribute and the language in the correspondence etc, would reflect their long-time support.

When someone goes to the next level, then you would just change their attribute description to the next level.

This may seem counter intuitiive, because you may want to just run gift reports to see how many years someone has given, but what do you do if they "miss" a year by either giving early and then late in the same year and then nothing the "next" year.... that would not include them in the giving timeframe.

    How big is your donorbase?

  • We have a section in the annual report that recognizes folks at 5, 10, 15 and 20+ years of consecutive giving.  There is a report that will pull that info for you.

    Tess,

Elaine's point is an excellent one.   As solicitation for our annual campaign begins in Dec with staff and board for the upcoming year, I often have some who will have two gifts in one calendar year and then none in the next.

RE reports only will pull consecutive years. If you are looking for consistent donors you can pull the info but it's not the easiest to set up the queries and exports. There were numerous post in the prior forums - not sure if they can be found.

You can certainly set up list like that for your org but you will need to decide if you are looking for only consecutive donors or if you'll include those missed a year in their 25 years of giving.  Fiscal year? Calendar year? Gift to each year's fund?  Soft credits? Just plan it well.
  • I agree that my with the Consecutive Years Report is any lapse causes a problem.

If you are trying to find people who have given 5 years, and someone takes off Year 2, gives a little early (so it is still in Year 1), or gives a little late (so it is in Year 3), it won't provide the results you are after.  If someone takes off a year, and one year only, if they give in Year 6, if you counted unique years, then at least then the constituent would count for 5 years.  But the report won't do this.

I haven't found a good report to show something like this.

I have to wonder if a Pivot Table could be manipulated to give a total count for each person.  I'm not sure.

I know that you could use Crystal Reports for a unique count.  But that might be beyond the scope of what you're after.
