NC Profile Updates

Options
Does anyone ever have trouble with NC profile updates NOT downloading correctly - specifically, NOT rejecting specific updates even when you tell it to and updating shared addresses even if the shared address check box is not checked?

  • Hi Haley!  I hope this message finds you well.

Usualy this is associated with processing transactions via Bulk Processing.  This is because Bulk Processing has two options for profile processing; reject all profile information or accept all profile information.  There isn't a process by which you can accept and reject specific portions of a profile change submitted by a donor.

Can you confirm whether or not you are experiencing this via bulk processing?
  • There is a way you can opt which data to accept from the Profile information. It involves going through each donor individually before performing a Bulk Processing.

    1. Click on the donor. Even if it has located a match, click on "Find Constituent" anyway.

    2. In the proceeding pop-up box, click on the matching constituent and click "Link Constituent".

    3. This will open up an editing section, which will allow you to individually select and edit which profile information you wish to accept.

    4. Save and Close. It will pop up a box: "There are remaining updates for this transaction. Do you wish to reject the remaining updates?" Click Yes.

    5. Now, any updates you selected have already been updated in the record. So now, when you open up the Bulk Processing box, select the option to Reject All Updates. What this will now do is reject any updates you have not already integrated into the Donor Profile.

Because almost no donor will ever type his name or address into the system "correctly", I usually have to do this for every single Online donor, in order to keep our database system clean and Post Office compliant. Hope this helps.

*Whoops - my bad! I thought we were talking about Online Express. Sorry!

  • Hi Connie:

The profile update that you are going through in the plugin is patently not acknowledged by Bulk Processing.  The activity you described is connected only with processing transactions individually in the NetCommunity plugin.

If one clicks the Bulk Processing button, then choose the Options tab, at the bottom of that tab you will observe that there are two options; Accept all profile updates and Reject all updates.  These are the only two options available when bulk processing transactions.

The best case senarios for using Bulk Processing are:
    • Processing large numbers of donations transactions which have been Auto-Linked and require no profile updates
    • Processing large numbers of donations where you wish to either accept all or reject all profile updates.
If you one is doing things like accounting for name spellings, capitalization, address updates and rejecting portions of the submitted information, these types of transactions would be considered poor candidates for use with Bulk Processing.

For a depiction of the best practices for processing Online Donations in Raiser's Edge from Blackbaud NetCommunity, we have a 6-minute video called Processing Online Donations in The Raiser's Edge available on Blackbaud University that walks through the best practice steps.

    Thanks!
  • Connie and Eli,

Thank you both for your responses. Yes, this does only happen in bulk processing...I do follow the steps you listed, Connie, but I also make sure to reject profile info, Eli. Based on the feedback from both of you I may choose to use bulk processing more selectively. I am glad to know that is isn't user error! Headed to find that video now...

    Thanks,

    Haley
