Dashboard crashing system

Options
Hello!

I was setting up a solicitor dashboard Tuesday afternoon that had 8 queries as part of it and when I hit submit it ran for quite some time but then was not responding at all.

I had to hard close the database and every time I've logged in since I can use other functionality (queries, admin, config, records, etc.) but every time I click on Dashboards I freeze/not responding and have to hard close the database.

I've tried logging into the database from another computer - same problem.  I've had other's logged in as themselves click Dashboard and it works fine for them.

Anyone ever have this problem?  What did you do to fix it?  I'm on RE 7.92 non-hosted

Thanks for any help/ideas!!

Joanne

  • I have the same issue so looking forward to some helpful answers!
  • Maybe you need to disable to autorefresh feature and just update manually one panel at a time.  I'm guessing you have several panels that are updating at once?  On my complicated dashboards, I just update one panel at a time, or it does seem to take forever.  Good luck
  • Hi all!

Joanne, it looks like you've already reached out to support a couple of times on this issue - thanks for taking the time to speak with us and I hope your issues have been resolved with the resources we shared. If you have any comments on what worked or what didn't, please do share with us!

For anyone else experiencing this issue, I do have a few ideas to share. First, if you have a lot of queries included in your dashboard, it's completely possible that the dashboard is hanging because it's trying to refresh and run all of those queries. If possible, try limiting the queries you're using in the dashboard. One way to do this would be to merge queries.

Additionally, if your username that you use to log in to The Raiser's Edge contains a space, it may help if you go into Admin > Security and replace the space with an underscore ( _ ) or remove it altogether. Then, exit & sign out from the File menu, and log back in to test your dashboard again.

If you're still struggling, try waiting out the "Not Responding" part - sometimes, a program will say it's "Not Responding" when it's trying to acocmplish something. So, if it's busy trying to generate the data in the dashboard, it may show as Not Responding while it's working. If possible, leave it running overnight or while you're out at lunch (you deserved a break anyway!). What we want is for it to throw an error message, which is usually more helpful than Raiser's Edge just hanging.

Sometimes, you may see it hanging while it's working, and then it may throw an error similar to the one documented here. There are several steps detailed that may help if it's an issue with your installation of The Raiser's Edge, such as repairing RE on your workstation and/or uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Web Components. The latest versions of The Raiser's Edge (from 7.94 on) will no longer require Microsoft Web Components, so that step would not be required if you are on a newer version.

I hope some of the information above gives you guys some help! Please feel free to keep commenting if you have any additional questions or issues, and have a good one!
  • Thanks Kelsey!

I was able to fix the problem by deleting the dashboard and starting over from scratch.

I believe part of the problem is one of the queries - which was a constituent query when it should have been a gift query - was duplicating lines even when I checked the box in query options to supress duplicate lines - so 10,000+ rows were trying to generate, hence the processing issue

I did have a related question about that though.  Now I have a gift query set up and it is working alot better but there are still some duplicate donor lines as their are several gifts from that donor that meet the criteria of the query - is there anyway to supress this or tell the query/dashboard to just list the latest gift in the dashboard?

I've been chatting with support this last week on a variety of issues and they have been so helpful solving a variety of issues we have been having and informing us how to do things moving forward.  Very much appreciated!!
