Mailing to two addresses

Options
Hey Everyone - We have a constituent that would like to receive mail at two addresses; her work and her home address. How do i include this in a larger query that i use to run the mailing list? I tried a few different things but none of them seemed right nor did the trick. Any ideas?

Any help is appreciated!

Are you sending to business records?  Does her work have a record in RE?  Unless you want to potentially pull more than 1 address for other constituents too, I think I would create a record for her work place with her as the contact.  If her work also needs to receive it, I'll have to think on it some more.

No we are sending to preferred addresses only. A second record sounds like it may be the only way.

  • Just double check your settings if you are creating this in Mail because in Mail, you have the option to include/exclude individuals who are also organizational contacts/  You may have to handle this manually if you generally exclude sending two letters in those instances.
  • You might be able to try this:
    • Create a new address type called '2nd Address' or something like that
    • Create an address attribute called 'Include 2nd address in mailings'
    • In address processing, see if you can play with the selections so that you are able to get two addresses out - you might be able to.
But not sure on this, as RE really works hard to select only ONE address for mailing -- you're basically breaking the way it wants to work I think.
  • I don't have many like this, but like Gina says, you're basically trying to break RE, so I've made duplicate records with her as the contact and not linked it to the indivual.  I have a constituent code for the few like this and notes and annotations in case anyone tries to "fix" it.
  • thanks everyone!

How do you get the record with the second address to pull into the query? I assume that since it is only a 'shadow' of the real constituent record it would not have any of the criteria that would have pulled the real record into the query.
