Querying Spouse Attributes

Options
I am trying to query for non-constituent spouses who share a specific attribute using this criterion: Spouse>Specific Attributes>Specific Attribute “X” Description equals “Yes”

I am getting 0 results, when I know for a fact that there are spouses with the attribute on their records. Is there something else I need to enter in the criteria section? Something that needs to be done in the spouse (or the primary constituent) record?

  • It worked for me just now, to do exactly what you posted, in both a constituent type and gift type query.  What query type are you in when it's not working?  Are you pulling the Yes value from a table or from typing it in?  If you are typing it, have you verified that it's actually "Yes" and not just "Y" or something else?
  • Hi Heather - Thanks for the reply. I was using a Constituent query. I just tried a Gift query, and it didn't work there either. The "Yes" value is from a table (if I'm understanding the meaning of "table" correctly in this context). The attribute data type is set as "Yes/No."
  • How are you determining non-constituent spouses?  Try removing the Attribute criteria (and from the output) and see if you get any results.

You may have to find these non-constituent spouses through individual relationships instead of the Spouse criteria (Relationships > Individuals > This Individual is A Constituent = No; This Individual Is The Spouse = Yes; plus the  Relationship attribute criteria) .
  • That did the trick, John Heizer--thank you so much!
  • I wonder if I misunderstood your "non-constituent" reference?  Do you mean they are actually entered as non-constituents or are only a spousal record within a primary constituent record?  I've never had to do what was suggested by John, and I'm glad it worked for you, but I am curious to see if we were speaking about something different than each other.
  • Heather MacKenzie:

Those two things are identical.  It's just that the Spouse non-constituent gets a special flag that puts it under the Spouse button on Bio1.
