Tracking goals for constituent vs proposal goals

Options
My team works with many donors with multiple, complex multi-year gifts. Each proposal refers to a specific project that donor is funding, and there can be multiple proposals every year.

At the same time, we want to have a total annual goal per constituent, and be able to understand at year end how the total received from multiple proposals compares to the original annual goal.

How would you recommend managing this? I see that a solicitor can have a goal for each constituent on the solicitor record, is that a potential solution?

  • Can you do something with proposal ask dates and expected dates and whatnot?

If not, I would probably repurpose some other field in the prospect tab, honestly.  Maybe a Financial Information entry?
  • James, thank you for the reply.

I like the idea of repurposing another field in the prospect tab, especially something that could be created and tracked year over year, e.g. 2015 Goal, 2016 Goal, etc. And then I would just report the total received in the proposals against that? We haven't been great at using proposals appropriately--linking to gifts, closing them out--but I want to start to track proposal success rate too.

I'm not really sure what you mean by doing something with ask/expect dates in terms of how that would be a solution...

I think a work around will probably be best, even though I would much prefer to use proposals for how they are supposed to be used.
  • I'm new in hte RE Community...so bear with me.  We do not have the Prospect module. I need to track the "moves" (next steps and prospect's participation).  Would attributes be the best way to do that?

Before you choose Attributes, I would look at Actions.  Depending on how your org uses RE, attributes could become very busy.  With actions you could possibly set up a progressive series of actions.  There have been previous posts on this topic and users who support both.  Do a search of forums to see if you can find previous thoughts shared by users.

    Just my thoughts...

Definitely look at using actions!! You can map out future actions and leave them open until completed, and then see on your dashboard or through a report all 'open' actions coming up. You don't need the prospect module to do moves management.
