How do others handle former Solicitors linked with pledges

Options

What is the standard for solicitors who were assigned to a donor and procured a pledge and the solicitor no longer works at your organization?  The solicitor is linked to the pledge and any subsequent payments default to the assigned solicitor at that time. When this solicitor no longer works for the organization or the donor is reassigned do you continue to have the pledge payments linked to the original solicitor or do you link these payments to the newly assigned solicitor?  We do enter a DATE FROM and  DATE TO in the relationship which reflects that the solicitor relationship is no longer the primary.  We don't want to loose the history of who brought in the pledge.  But, I am wondering what others do with subsequent payments.  We have had both thoughts - the orignal solicitor continues to get "credit" as the new solicitor may have had nothing to do with the pledge or subsequent payments

Mechelle, I think it's just org preference.  I rarely have changed solicitor because as you said they procured pledge whether it was one installment or ten.  If prospect is reassigned and new solicitor is involved in obtaining perhaps lapsed payments I can definitely see that solicitor being credited.  You can manually credit payments to different solicitor than recorded on pledge.  We also would want to maintain original solicitor on the pledge.  Using the date to field sounds like you're tracking it well.

Does it make a difference in your reports who has the credit?  For us it's not really an issue after initial phase of campaign when our soliciting teams are competing [:D].

We have a solicitor type called "Past solicitor" for those staff who have moved on. That way we can assign a current solicitor going forward, but the former remains on the record and it helps us clarify exactly who dealt with what.

I am on the same page with JoAnn.  Enter the Date From and Date To.  And the cleanest way I have experienced is to reassign the solicitor to donors every FY.  That way your from and to dates are consistent, making searches easier.

Yes, keep the past solicitor on the record and add the new one, if one is assigned.

By assigning with the dates, it also comes in handy when having queries set up for each solicitor to search on just their group of donors.  Also handy when they are out in the field and using REMobile, in case they want to do check-ins with just their peeps.
