Relationship Contact Types - What Do You Use?

Options

In your relationships, what does your organization use for "Contact Type?"

We currently use: Proposal, High-Level, Event, Former, and TEMP (in all caps, no less)

I've seen postings in the forum about Contact Attributes, but those posts were from 2005...wondering if anyone has any updates for how they use Contact Types or Contact Attributes.

Our main issue is pulling the right name for, say, an acknowledgment letter or an event invitation.

Thank you!

    We use:

    • Primary
    • Sponsorship (specific for our Annual Campaign),
    • Golf  (recent capital campaign related to golf course)
    • Edgemont (one of our branch YMCAs - their contact if different)
    • Custer  (one of our branch YMCAs - their contact if different)
    • Investment Committee (asked to record with person the committee contacts - not really used)

Haven't done much with contact attributes.

We don't use Former as if the person is no longer with the org, I uncheck the "Contact" box.Remove any type entered.  Haven't found a need to send something to a former contact.

We use the Contact Type info on Org tab of Mail functions to select/prioritize who gets the mailing.

Am sure we could be better using contact types but it's working for us at this time.

     Hello:

We have the following Contact Types:

    • VIP, Primary, Secondary: to denote the individual's relationship with the company and us (VIP is likely the owner / president, primary is the person we have a direct relationship with, secondary are people we know about, but may not want to mail to [admin])

    • Golf Player / Golf Contact: we have an annual golf tournament, so this helps us know who we should target for that event

    • Gala Contact: same deal, just for a different event!

    • Grant Contact: the person we work with at a foundation

    • EAP Contact: this is specific to one of our programs; this way, we know who the contact between our organization and that company is from a programmatic standpoint.

We use attributes for each contact to pull for mailings, but these categories help us strategize further, when necessary.

This is all very helpful, thank you!

So Jennifer, how do you deal with this when someone is a Primary and is also the Golf Contact?  Do you have one name listed twice on the Relationships tab?  Can you say more about how your Contact Attributes work?

    Thanks.

  • In Contact Type we use:

    Primary

    2ndary

    Grants

    Event/Auction
