Recommendations on Memberships

 Hello fellow RE users. My organization currently does not have the membership module. We only have two small memberships we track. I am looking for suggestions on how to track memberships in RE without the module. How do you put their membership in? (most of these folks will already be a constituent) How would you track expiration dates? How would you track membership fees or dues?  Anything else you can add to this discussion will be helpful.

Before we had the membership module we tracked the program very simply with a fund code and gift dates/amounts.  We could query on gifts of $50-$99 to xyz fund during a certain time frame to get member who were "expiring" to appeal for renewals.
