Appeals, Packages, and Lots... oh my!

Options

Greetings.  Not sure how to handle this in RE.  We have an acquisition mailing, with four (what we are calling) Lots, with ten packages per Lot.  Our code on the mailing looks like this: A1013-0001A (Appeal code first 5 characters, Package last 5 characters).  We have been fine with this for the past three years, but now we want to report by Lot, which is coded with the last character in the Package code ("A" in this example).  There really isn't another layer in RE to handle this.  We would need:

- Appeal

- Lot

- Package

The Lot indicates the different ways we are testing the mailing (BRE vs. postage stamp; window envelope vs. no window, etc.). The package indicates the source of the name (other org's mailing list, magazine list, etc.).

For the report they want to see projected response rate, projected revenue and actual cost per Lot.  I can group the Packages into Lots on the report (using Crystal Reports), but there really isn't a way to record one projected revenue, projected response rate and actual cost per Lot on Packages.

Maybe this should really be four different Appeal codes?

Thanks!

Josh

Package Categories! Woo Hoo. First time I have actually seen a good use for these.

Unfortunately, this means you will have to either use queries in your canned reports or use other reporting options like pivot reports.

  • Hi Josh,

I really enjoyed your session at the 2015 BBCON.

I'll be in the same boat I guess as there are discussions going on at our organization about conducting a big acquisition campaign in future. Could you please share with me how you set-up appeals and packages. In past, we conducted smaller acquisition appeals where we set-up a package under a direct mail appeal for acquisition but at that time we did not have RE. For your question here, did you end up setting up four appeals?

    Thanks,

    Brinda
